The Historical Regatta traditionally happens on the first Sunday of September.
On the day of the Regata Storica, St Marks Bay and the Grand Canal are packed with boats of every shape and size. The Regatta is preceded by a fleet of bissone (typical parade boats) with costumed crews: the parade has a ceremonial function. Then, over 200 boats from the venetian rowing academies and associations (Voga alla Veneta) follow.
The Parade introduces the dense program of Regattas, on which different teams battle and race to achieve glory.
