THURSDAY 31st AUGUST

6:00PM ___Campo della Salute – Blessing of the gondolini

Presentation of the crews, blessing of the belts and of the boats. The ceremony is preceded by a  water parade in Grand Canal: 5.00 – 5.15 pm gathering at Erbaria di Rialto, 5.30-6.15 parade from Rialto to the Salute church.


SUNDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER

At 3.30 pm

THE PIAVE RAFTERS (Zattieri) AT THE HISTORICAL REGATTA

A raft belonging to the Fameja dei Zatèr e Menadàs de la Piave of Codissago (Belluno) will travel along the Grand Canal with representatives from European associations on board to commemorate the bond between Venice and the small towns along the Piave River that supplied the Venetian Republic with wood from their forests.

From 4.00 pm

HISTORICAL AND SPORT WATER PAGEANT: parade along the Grand Canal by historical crafts with costumed crews, boats and gondolas of the Venetian rowing associations (Voga alla Veneta). Course: St. Mark’s Bay, Grand Canal, Rialto, Railway Station and return along the Grand Canal until Ca’ Foscari.

_4.30 pm – MACIARELE AND SCHIE REGATTA: two oared regatta on mascarete dedicated to children.

Categories:

– Maciarele senior (under 14 years). Course: from Punta della Dogana to Ca’ Foscari

– Schie (under 10 years). Course: from Rialto to Ca’ Foscari

– Maciarele Junior (under 12 years). Course: from San Stae to Ca’ Foscari

_4.50 pm – YOUNG ROWERS’ TWIN-OARED PUPPARINI REGATTA

Course: St. Mark’s Bay, Grand Canal, around the paleto in front of Ca’ Farsetti, to finish at Ca’ Foscari.

_ 5.10 pm – SIX-OARED CAORLINE REGATTA

Course: St. Mark’s Bay, Grand Canal, Rialto (around the paleto in front of San Marcuola), and back down the Grand Canal to finish at Ca’ Foscari.

_ After the passage of Caorline (match for third place) and after the passage of Gondolini (final) – INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITIES BOAT CHALLENGE
Challenge on eight-oared galeoni boats by the crew of Ca’ Foscari and Iuav Universities of Venice versus the teams of other Universities.

Course: From Rialto to Ca’ Foscari.

_5.40 pm – WOMEN’S TWIN-OARED MASCARETE REGATTA

Course: St. Mark’s Bay, Grand Canal, Rialto (around the paleto in front of San Marcuola), and back down the Grand Canal to finish at Ca’ Foscari.

_6.10 pm – TWIN-OARED GONDOLINI REGATTA

Course: St. Mark’s Bay, Grand Canal, Rialto (around the paleto in front of San Marcuola), and back down the Grand Canal to finish at Ca’ Foscari.


OTHER EVENTS

CONCERTS FOR THE HISTORICAL REGATTA – Sunday 3rd September 2023 starting at 4:00pm

The “Serenissima Choir” performs at the Campo della Salute.
The “Banda di Tessera” performs at the Venice Santa Lucia station.
La Barca dei Comici performs in Fondamenta S. Simeone Piccolo

The water parade commemorates the welcome given in 1489 to Caterina Cornaro, the wife of the King of Cyprus, who renounced her throne in favour of Venice.

Scores of typically 16th century-style boats, with gondoliers in period costume carry the Doge, the Doge’s wife and all the highest ranking Venetian officials up the Grand Canal in a brightly coloured parade. An unforgettable sight and a true reconstruction of the glorious past of one of the most powerful and influential Maritime Republics in the Mediterranean.

Main Events

The Regata Storica is the main event in the annual "Voga alla Veneta" rowing calendar. This unique sport has been practised in the Venetian lagoon for thousands of years and today it is particularly well-known for the spectacular historical water pageant that precedes the race.

Disnar

A lively festival dedicated to conviviality, good food and lightheartedness, with a focus on “voga alla veneta” rowing style and traditions.

International Universities Rowing Race

The International Universities Rowing Race in the Grand Canal, organized by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice in collaboration with Iuav University of Venice and CUS Venezia, has been held since 2004 on board of historical galleons on the occasion of the Historical Regatta.
